Our
mahi

There’s more than one way to change what’s possible for a young person. Sometimes change starts with a youth worker. A piece of research. A safe place to belong.
A different way of learning. A community with an idea. Or someone asking a question nobody has quite answered yet.

We work alongside people and organisations doing all of those things – looking for where
our pūtea, relationships, knowledge or willingness to try something different might help
good mahi go further.

The bigger
picture

We look at what’s happening in, with and around young
people. Young people sit at the heart of our mahi.

But their lives are shaped by everything around
them – the people they know, places they belong,
opportunities they have and systems they encounter.

So our work stretches across a pretty wide landscape.
Sometimes we’re helping something good happen
now. Sometimes we’re looking further around the
problem, at what’s holding it in place, and where
something could shift. Sometimes, it’s both.

Different mahi.
Shared direction.

On paper, our work sits across different funding areas. In real life, the lines are blurrier. Across all of
it sits a commitment to equity because not every young person starts with the same opportunities, resources or support around them.

Housing affects mental wellbeing. Education affects belonging and possibility. A stronger youth sector means stronger support around young people.

Better evidence can change practice. Stronger organisations can create better environments.
And an idea tested in one community can
sometimes travel much further.
