Youth Hub Christchurch:
A place to belong,
a foundation to grow
A place to belong,

Why we backed it
What our support
helped make possible
Having a safe place to live is so connected to a young person’s health, wellbeing and opportunities.
Youth Hub Christchurch brings these things together, combining supported housing with youth services and spaces for connection in central Ōtautahi.
Stage One opened in November 2024, with a youth services building, an outdoor activities courtyard and supported housing for 22 young people aged 16-24.
Each single-bedroom unit has its own study space and ensuite bathroom. Rangatahi residents share kitchen, dining, laundry and living spaces, and have access to the outdoor courtyard, a basketball court and rooftop terrace.
The wider Hub supports young people aged 10–25, bringing together health care, mental health support, and help with education, training and employment.
For rangatahi needing support from several organisations, finding help can mean navigating different locations, systems and relationships. The Hub creates a place where that support can come together around them.
This reflects our belief in positive youth development: recognising the whole person, building on their strengths and creating the conditions for them to thrive. It also connects with the Positive Youth Development in Aotearoa (PYDA) framework’s “in, with and around” understanding of community roles. Young people and their communities, practitioners working alongside them, and funders and decision-makers all have a part to play. Our investment sits in that “around” space, helping create the conditions for those closest to rangatahi to do their mahi.
The Hub is the result of contributions from many funders and supporters, united by a shared vision of stable housing, trusted relationships and accessible support for rangatahi.
